Title: „About the Brain Day 2023 program - introduction”

This year, as part of Brain Week 2023, we have another proposal for a special program for teenagers in schools. As part of Brain Day 2023, there will be lectures, traditionally prepared by scientists from the Maj Institute of Pharmacology Polish Academy of Sciences. Although in this year the program is aimed mainly at students in the upper grades of elementary schools and high school students, however we have a little surprise for kindergarteners, which is a booklet for kids. Perhaps you remember the one from last year? The booklet you receive this year is a continuation of the adventures of Little Amygdala and Hippocampus. We invite you to listen to the lectures and download the booklet !

Title: „How big eyes can fear have? A few words about post-traumatic stress syndrome"

We all know that feelings of fear can follow us on many occasions, but most often we don't contract a chronic condition like post-traumatic stress disorder as a result. Yet it unfortunately happens to some people. Post-traumatic stress syndrome is an extremely complex disease that affects many aspects of human life. This short lecture will outline the characteristics of the disease and the mechanisms by which severe stress changes the way we perceive and respond to the world around us.

Title: „Hear the inaudible: an evaluation of ultrasonic communication in rats”

Can you imagine that rats communicate among themselves, and we cannot hear their voice? What's more, some sounds from their "speech" are audible only to other rats, but not to animals of other species. Very clever, isn't it? But most importantly, the voice of rat babies is well recognized by rat moms. About why animals use a "secret" way to communicate and why we humans can't hear them, we will learn during this presentation.
